The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to the religious practices of Buddhist communities in Kaloran District, Temanggung Regency, particularly affecting the role of pandita as spiritual leaders. This study aims to analyze the transformation of the role of Buddhist pandita in the digital era, identify the challenges in preserving religious traditions amid modernization, and examine the impact of digital technology on the quality and sustainability of Buddhist religious practices. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with pandita, temple administrators, and Buddhist adherents, direct observation of religious activities, and supporting documentation. Data analysis was conducted systematically through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the observed phenomena. The findings indicate that the transformation of the role of Buddhist pandita is reflected in changes in patterns of religious communication, the utilization of digital technology in spiritual guidance, and the expansion of the pandita’s role as digital educators, curators of religious information, and mediators between generations. However, pandita also face various challenges, including limited digital literacy, concerns over the erosion of traditional values, inadequate technological infrastructure, and the emergence of instant religious practices influenced by the fast-paced digital culture. On the other hand, digital technology provides positive impacts such as increased access to Dharma learning, the formation of virtual religious communities, and greater participation among younger generations. Nevertheless, negative impacts also arise, including decreased physical attendance at religious services, the potential for misinformation regarding Buddhist teachings, and a decline in the depth of spiritual practice. Therefore, the transformation of the role of Buddhist pandita in the digital era requires continuous adaptation so that technology can be used wisely without diminishing the essence of Buddhist traditions.Downloads
