YANG KOTOR DAN PERLU DISEMBUNYIKAN: PEMETAAN KAJIAN MENSTRUASI PADA REMAJA LINTAS BUDAYA

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memetakan kajian menstruasi yang melibatkan remaja perempuan dan laki-laki lintas budaya. Tulisan ini memilah penelitian kualitatif tentang pengalaman menstruasi remaja berdasarkan kawasan tempat penelitian dilakukan, yakni penelitian yang dilakukan di kawasan Global North, kawasan Global South, penelitian yang dilakukan di Indonesia, serta penelitian yang melibatkan remaja laki-laki. Hasil pemetaan ini menunjukkan bahwa penelitian di kawasan Global South terfokus pada pengalaman menstruasi secara umum, dan bagaimana tabu serta mitos menstruasi berdampak pada pengalaman ini. Penelitian di Indonesia meletakkan fokusnya pada sikap, pengetahuan, serta praktik menstruasi remaja perempuan. Penelitian yang dilakukan di dua kawasan ini cenderung mereduksi menstruasi menjadi isu kesehatan dan kebersihan. Sementara itu, penelitian di kawasan Global North terfokus pada berbagai wacana menstruasi serta tubuh perempuan, serta bagaimana remaja perempuan memaknai wacana yang ada dan membentuk konstruksi identitas serta memperoleh agensi melalui pengalaman menstruasinya. Penelitian yang melibatkan remaja laki-laki memfokuskan kajiannya pada sikap, pengetahuan serta pemahaman remaja laki-laki, tetapi masih belum menggali dampak langsung ketiga hal ini pada perempuan yang ada di sekitarnya.
